Messi Didn't Deserve To Finish Runner-Up, Torres Did - Bhaichung
More than a week back the World Player of the Year Awards were handed out and the winner was one Portuguese who plays in Manchester, not of Sheikhs! Indian skipper Bhaichung Bhutia voted for the United winger but added that Lionel Messi didn’t deserve to finish as runner-up.
But what surprised Bhaichung was that Barcelona’s Lionel Messi finished second to Ronaldo, ahead of Fernando Torres and David Villa.
“For me, to win such awards you have to back it up with some silverware. My second vote was for Fernando Torres. Look at the number of goals scored and he won the EURO championships. He had an exceptional season.
“Messi did well but neither Barcelona nor Argentina have any major trophies to show.
“I feel David Villa deserved something better after being the topscorer in the EURO ’08. He has an eye for goals and is very clinical in finishing.”
Bhaichung’s third vote, however, went to Lionel Messi, who he thinks could be a favourite to win the coveted award next season.
“Messi has been playing well this season and if he continues then maybe he could emerge as a winner.”
