AIFF Elections On December 23

The all important All India Football Federation (AIFF) elections are to be held on December 23 when the Annual General Body (AGM) meets at Delhi thus, clearing the murkiness surrounding it.

The AIFF Executive Committee, which met yesterday, after mulling over for a couple of hours decided to give a go-ahead for the elections including for the post of President though no one is expected to file the nomination.

“Nobody would dare to fill in the nomination for the post of president and thus show disrespect to Dasmunsi who is battling for life and death in the hospital,” said a very senior official from eastern India who was billed to stand for the post.

Certain members in the Executive Committee meeting called for the postponement of elections for the post of President but then later, it was decided to honour the constitution.

Current AIFF vice-president Praful Patel shall be the acting President until the elections and if nobody would nominate, then he shall continue to do so unchallenged.

“No one has a chance against Praful Patel and so, he is likely to continue as he would be unanimously voted,” said the official.

The elections for all the office bearers of the executive Committee (13) and vice-president would also be conducted. Meanwhile, the post of the general secretary is nominated by the President and the term of Alberto Colaco comes to an end at the year end.

The executive committee members are in Delhi and the lobbying for elections has already begun with several officials expected to have a couple of meetings unofficially.

“We are, in Delhi, so it’s better to start working for it and decide who wants whom now. This is the best time since everyone is around,” said one official.

In yet another decision by the Executive Committee, six state associations – Rajasthan, Daman and Diu, Andhra Pradhesh, Arunachal Pradhesh, Andaman and Nagaland have been stripped of their voting rights for a plethora of reasons.

The salaries of national team coach Bob Houghton and technical director Colin Toal has been increased by a reportedly exorbitant sum.
