Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho acknowledged that his side are sitting in pole position to win the Primera Division title following the weekend's results.

Madrid recorded a 4-2 win over Levante on Sunday, while Barcelona were beaten 3-2 by Osasuna on Saturday evening, allowing the Santiago Bernabeu side to open up a 10-point lead over their arch-rivals.

Mourinho has stated that Madrid can now afford to slip up without feeling Barca's pressure right away.

"Ten points are just that, but they do give you some room for error. Losing a game won't push us into a decisive situation," Mourinho was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

"There are many points still at stake and many games yet to be played. Every match is difficult and increasingly so because there is so much at stake for everyone now.

"Those who want to avoid relegation or play in Europe risk everything. There are 39 points left, which translate into 13 victories, and that's still a lot."

Madrid's next game is the Liga match at home against Racing Santander on February 18.
