LUIS FABIANO
Club: Sevilla
Country: Brazil
Age: 29 (DOB November 8 1980)
Position: Attacker
Previous Placings: None

Ever improving in front of goal, Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano is quickly becoming one of the most sought after goalscorers in modern football. With Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's failed attempt at merging well with his new Serie A side, Italian giants AC Milan are just one of the teams interested in landing this big Brazilian fish.

Enduring and persisting after a small hiccup in his career whilst at Porto during the 2004-2005 season, the 29-year-old hitman has continued to excel since setting up shop at the head of Sevilla's attack, striking fear into each and every defender present in La Liga.

In proving himself to such a high degree at club level, Fabiano has, in recent years, returned to the international fray after a three-year dry spell. Having established himself as one of the Selecao's most dangerous players, it's no wonder this man has found himself nominated for the Ballon d'Or this year.

Attributes
  • Has scored 10 goals in 13 games in all competitions so far this season
  • Of late, has managed to keep a lid on his previously hot temper
  • Never before nominated for the Ballon d'Or, but the Confederations Cup win sees him through
  • Combines physical presence with a strong Brazilian flair
  • Has the innate ability to be in the right place at the right time

They Say...

"To be be chosen for the Ballon d'Or [nominations] was a surprise and I did not expect it. I'm very happy to be among the thirty elected. It is the result of a good job in the Selecao and with Sevilla," -- Luis Fabiano himself, speaking to AS

Prediction

Luis will probably finish somewhere in the early teens after the final vote is counted. Despite guiding Sevilla to third place in the Primera Division earlier this year, and, putting aside his immense goal return this term, the Rojiblancos striker failed to impose himself enough on the European scene last season, finishing fourth in Group C of the Europa League. Without a European trophy or domestic title to boast, 'O Fabuloso' will be extremely lucky if he reaches the top ten.
