The Mariners bagged all three points against a revamped Tollygunge Agragami side in the first match of the campaign.
Subhash Bhowmick handed debuts to a number of new faces at the club while Shilton Paul started in goal. Satish Singh and Shouvik Ghosh were the two full-backs while Jeje Lalpekhlua and C.S. Sabeeth paired up with Yusa Katsumi unfront.
Tollygunge Agragami went into the match under their new gaffer Subarata Bhattacharya and had known faces like Koko Sakibo and Daniel Bidemi in their starting line-up.
The game started slowly with Mohun Bagan interested in keeping possession while not doing much in the opposition half. In the 25th minute, Yusa Katsumi unleashed a powerful effort but the shot was off target.
The breakthrough came when the referee pointed to the spot in the 42nd minute as Jeje was brought down inside the box. The former Dempo player did no mistake and scored his first goal for the club to put them into the lead.
The teams went into the break with the Green and Maroon brigade carrying a slender lead.
After the break, Lalkamal Bhowmick was introduced by Subhash in place of Souvik. Just after the hour mark, Balwant Singh also made his debut for the Kolkata giants.
Mohun Bagan in spite of creating a number of chances in the half did not come close in converting any. Sabeeth had a golden opportunity in the dying minutes of the game, but even after getting the better of a Tollygunge defender, he failed to keep his shot on target.
Mohun Bagan will play their next match against Police A.C. on Sunday.
