Pune FC were crushed 3-1 by title chasing East Bengal at the Salt Lake Stadium in an I-League encounter last weekend.
Following his team’s defeat, Pune FC coach Mike Snoei said, “I must say that East Bengal is very effective. Then they finished it. Its quality and it’s no coincidence.”
Croatian striker Mirjan Pavlovic only made a substitute appearance as he carried a niggle from the AFC Cup tie against Nay Pyi Taw in Myanmar.
“Pavlovic had a huge ankle and had to take painkillers to play. We played four days ago (in Myanmar) but that's no excuse. We played whole year to get into AFC Cup and it’s a good experience.
“We also want our foreigners to get on a higher level."
The former Panathinaikos assistant coach praised the midfield of East Bengal, namely Cavin Lobo, Harmanjot Khabra and Lalrindika Ralte.
“The two Indian boys in the centre are strong for East Bengal and so it was pretty difficult for Riga (Mustapha) out there. Their one mistake allowed us to score and we were waiting for another one.”
When questioned about which team he felt would win the I-League he said, “We have also played Bengaluru but I think East Bengal are far more effective. So I would take East Bengal over Bengaluru.”
