Bengaluru FC were merciless in disposing off Mohun Bagan at the Salt Lake Stadium and Pradyum Reddy was evidently optimistic about his team's chances...
When asked if he was happy with the win and the performance against The Mariners, assistant coach Pradhyum Reddy mentioned of being satisfied with the result.
"Of course we are happy. Our job was to get three points and we achieved that. Six more points available and we are trying to take each match as it comes. We are probably hoping for another victory in the next match (against Dempo SC) to pick up three more points."
Reddy was also optimistic when he was asked whether this has put them firmly in the driver's seat in the championship race.
"If we win our matches and that's it. We are not concentrating on what Salgaocar does or any other team does. We can't affect that. We can't affect what other teams do. We just concentrate on what we can do. We need to recover well."
Mohun Bagan gifted the second goal to the visitors as Sandip Nandy played the ball straight to Sean Rooney who slotted it home first time. Reddy said that credit must go to Robin Singh for putting pressure on the Bagan full back in the first place.
"It's football, isn't it? It wasn't fair to say that it was gifted. I thought Robin worked incredibly well to press their right back (Pritam Kotal). Then he forced the goalkeeper into a mistake. I won't say its fortuitous and I would say it was good defending, defending from the front."
Reddy said that there were no special plans for their next two matches against Dempo SC and Sporting Clube de Goa at Goa.
"We prepare for every match same way. Nothing different. We have played in Goa twice already. Obviously we will get a bigger break now and we will go back to Bangalore to recover."
Reddy also praised Karim Bencherifa for the good work that he has done this seaosn with Mohun Bagan especially with his handling of youngsters and refused to accept that they were a weak opposition.
"Some teams use their U-23 player just for the sake of using him like you saw yesterday (when Mohammedan Sporting subtituted Monirul Mondal and brought in Jerry Zirzanga) when he was subbed after twenty minutes. I think Karim has done a great job getting young players in especially when he had most of his squad injured for the majority of the season. Whether its Ram Malik or Pankaj Moula, all these youngsters have come up and they will be a force to reckon with next season if they keep the same team."
He concluded by saying that a fortnight long break will not have any bearing on their preparations for the next two matches.
"I don't think the break will be a factor since all teams have the same break."
