Salgaocar FC suffered a shocking defeat when Rangdajied United beat the Goans 2-1 in their own backyard on Saturday.

The Greens, 34, face Pune FC at the Balewadi Sports Complex on Friday with an opportunity to move within a point of leaders Bengaluru FC who have an away fixture against Mohun Bagan on Sunday.

Salgaocar coach, Derrick Pereira admits that the result against Rangdajied was a disappointment while hoping that his side recover well.

"After the last match [against Rangdajied] everybody was disappointed. We needed that extra effort after we had taken the lead. Hopefully we will get a better result on Friday," he said.

"If you analyse our season, at one point we were struggling to get points. We had just 18 points from 14 matches. The next six matches were good for us where we took 16 points.

"Overall, it is good. We will approach the remaining three matches one at a time. We have to do well to get into a better position and we have to depend on other results also. I'm sure that we will get a good position on the table."

Salgaocar were on a winning streak for five straight matches since the resumption of the I-League and were undefeated for six matches until their defeat to Rangdajied.

"You have to have patience when there is a slump. You have to work harder. Like after the last match, we all got together and we promised each other that we will do better in the remaining three matches - stay focused till the end of the match," Pereira commented.

"What happened that day (against Rangdajied) was that we lost our focus. We lost our concerntration, especially after taking the lead. If we want to do better and get results, we have to be focused throughout the match than to go off for a minute or a second also. So I tell my players to stay focused for 90 plus minutes."
