Mumbai FC registered only their fourth victory in the I-League this season as they came-back to down Shillong Lajong 2-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong.
“Yes, I am very happy. I got this win because of the players. Whatever I told them, they did it with full determination. I’m very happy,” said coach Khalid Jamil.
The 36-year old spoke of how difficult a task it is to beat Lajong in their own backyard as it was only their third loss at home this term.
“As I told you whenever we play here against Lajong and all the away teams feel that the start (opening half hour) is very difficult because of the weather. Also Lajong play very well here and so it is very difficult to beat them. You have to be on top,” he explained.
Jamil’s outfit are placed tenth on the table and have another three matches to go. Their next game is against the high flying Dempo SC who have seen their fortunes change since the I-League resumed after the winter break.
“Now let us see what the targets are. We must save ourselves from relegation. We have three matches of which one is away and two are home matches We must go step by step which will be better.”
