Derrick Pereira: Defeat to Rangdajied was sheer bad luck

The coach of the Goan side believes that his side are still in with a chance to win the league…

Salgaocar FC took the lead in the 83rd minute through Francis Fernandes and it seemed that they would close the gap at the top to just a point. However that was not to be as Ranti Martins scored a couple of goals to help Rangdajied United pick full points.

Derrick Pereira believes that it was his team’s poor finishing which came to hurt them eventually as they failed to bury the chances created in the first half.

“We did not finish the chances that we got in the first half, although the performance was much better than the earlier match [against United Sports Club].

“After taking the lead, we should have defended well. It (The defeat) was just a sheer bad luck,” said Pereira.

The 52-year old pointed that it was their problem at the left back position which iis constantly exposed by the opposition.

“Our half line was okay. Actually our full backs - we tried many players in the left full back position. Today we tried [Caitano] Costa. We had to rearrange the defense and I think that has hampered our defensive shape.

“Nicolau [Colaco], who used to be our left back, is injured and Rahul [Kumar] who also plays as left back is yet to recover. The whole season we have been looking out for a left back,” he mentioned.

Pereira mentioned that the humid conditions meant that his side couldn’t commit men forward and it was difficult to maintain pressure on the opposition throughout.

“The conditions are such that you cannot go all out. You have to balance your energy and you have to see when to push forward and when to hold on.”

The gap between Bengaluru FC and Salgaocar FC has widened to four points. Pereira is hopeful that they can get back to winning ways soon.

“We will keep pushing ourselves and try our best.”
