Sen: Dempo scored when our player was on the ground

The Indian gaffer of the Kolkata outfit believes that his side can avoid the drop if they manage to get a couple of positive results…

Mohammedan Sporting succumbed to yet another defeat in the I-League as they went down 1-0 to Dempo SC in an away fixture last weekend.

Coach Sanjoy Sen mentioned that his team were second best for most of the tie and didn’t deserve any points.

“We were outplayed, we have to admit and there are no excuses. It was a very poor performance. As far as the I-League is concerned, this is the worst performance of our team after I took charge,” he said.

It was Luis Barreto who bailed the Kolkata side out on a number of occasions. Sen praised the effort of his custodian but was disappointed as Dempo SC scored when Mohammedan only had ten ‘active’ players on the field.

“Definitely, in the first half he (Barreto) allowed is to be in the game. In the second half we started well but the goal we conceded was when a player was lying down. There is one word in football called ‘Fair Play’. So we will follow that way of playing.

“When Ashim Biswas is lying on the ground, Clifford (Miranda) took the ball saw that he is lying and crossed the ball. It was from that move we conceded. Our players waited hoping that they (Dempo) would go for fair play,” he mentioned.

Mohammedan are placed at the bottom of the table and Sen still backed his side to come out of the relegation mire.

“We are not the only team. Five-or-six teams are there. It’s a matter of winning three points. So if we can earn three points we can catch others. From 13th position we can go straight to eighth or ninth or even tenth.

“If we win one or two matches then it will be good. We are in the relegation zone but are not pressing the panic button because we are playing four matches at home. So let’s look forward.”
