The Goan coach wasn’t surprised that his side only picked up a point against United Sports Club…
Salgaocar FC and United SC played out a 0-0 draw at the Tilak Maidan last weekend. The Greens could have closed the gap at the top to a point given that Bengaluru FC eventually lost their game against Shillong Lajong.
However Salgaocar had Dempo SC just two prior to their game against the Kolkata outfit and fatigue played an important role as coach Derrick Pereira made just one change from the last outing.
“I expected this performance. It was not up to our expectations and liking. I knew that it would happen this way. In two days time [after playing against Dempo SC] in a long league, recovery is very important. We started well and then I think the energy levels went down. But at least we got a point.
“The last match was tough against Dempo. So to recover from that match was difficult. Also, we need to rotate players. If you look at our bench, we have a few inexperienced players,” he explained.
With Rahul Kumar and Nicolau Colaco injured, Pereira shifted winger Gilbert Oliveira to the left back slot and the player didn’t disappoint.
“Yes, we had to shift Gilbert [Oliveira] from the left wing to the left wing back position and we had problems over there. Hopefully, we will cover up.
“At the moment he's (Colaco) in plaster for 10 days. After that we will have to see. He may be out for around two weeks. Hopefully, Rahul [Kumar] should be back [from a hamstring strain].”
