The Mumbai FC gaffer was happy to see his side comeback to win a point from their away fixture against the Goan side…
Mumbai FC drew 1-1 with Sporting Clube de Goa last weekend in a round 21 I-League fixture. Boima Karpeh had put the home side ahead from the penalty spot which was cancelled out by Yusif Yakubu in the second half.
“We conceded a silly penalty, but we came back strongly and missed many chances. [Mohammed] Rafi had a good chance, [Yusif] Yakubu tried. We tried our best,” said coach Khalid Jamil.
“We played better. Only luck was not favouring us,” he added.
Jamil refused to be drawn into the debate as to whether the penalty awarded by referee Pratap Singh was a fair one after goalkeeper Kunal Sawant appeared to have tripped Karpeh inside the box.
“No complains (on that as) I was not close,” he replied.
Mumbai FC have 20 points from 19 matches and Jamil stated that if they play in the manner in which they did against Sporting, they would survive the drop.
“Our first priority is to save ourselves from relegation. If we play the we are playing, there is no doubt that we can avoid relegation.
“The (defense) played very good. Everybody was in good shape. We tried our best.”
