The Goan coach thanked the Almighty for showering His blessings on Salgaocar…
Derrick Pereira’s side have snapped nine points from three matches since the resumption of the I-League as they arrested their slide given that they had failed to register three points in their last seven league outings.
They thrashed Shillong Lajong 3-1 last weekend and Pereira acknowledged that the chemistry between Dudu Omagbemi and Darryl Duffy is growing with each game.
“When you have quality strikers like Dudu and Duffy and you have hard working peers behind them, you always get results. Now I think what we are doing is that the players are putting in a good team effort, and they are happy about the way we scored and defended. Although Lajong is a good side I think we hardly gave them space at the back and that’s the reason why we got a good result.
“The two quick goals gave us lot of confidence and the team showed a lot of character in defending well. After so many dead results, I think we deserved this.”
The Goan outfit have seven matches to go and are very much involved in the title race with their rivals dropping points in round 19. Pereira mentioned that the difference between the top half and the bottom placed teams isn’t big.
“All teams are tough and there is not much of a difference between the top and the bottom side. You have Mohammedan Sporting beating Sporting, and we have seen Churchill playing with Mohun Bagan and East Bengal and getting a draw. So it’s tough and on a given day the team that takes the chances wins.
“God willing we will do well. I thank God for all the blessings showered upon us and I thank the boys as well for responding well. We are working very hard and putting in good work.”
