Top and Flop: Rangdajied United FC 3-2 Bengaluru FC

Ranti Martins' debut couldn't have been better as he ended up scoring the match winner against the table toppers in Shillong...
Welcome to Goal's new I-League feature: Top and Flop. For every game, a candidate will be put forward, as chosen by Goal, who deserves recognition for achieving something special. It won't necessarily be the best player in the league - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. In the same vein, we will also name a player whose performance wasn’t up to the mark on the given day and eventually came to hurt his side.

TOP: RANTI MARTINS

The prolific striker taken on loan from United SC (left) proved his mettle in his very first match for the Blues. The hosts were inspired by a brilliant Martins in attack who scored the match winner in the 76th minute. He was also instrumental in the second goal the hosts netted when he combined with Dias to play in Lalnunpuia. Above all Martins’ sheer presence on the pitch and his raids on the opposition half came as a major boost for the Blues desperately looking for that elusive win. The Nigerian striker almost made it 4-2 for Rangdajied in added time when his right footed effort hit the far post.

FLOP: PAWAN KUMAR

The Bengaluru FC goalie lacked anticipation on more than one occasion. He also lacked proper support from the Garden City defenders who at best had an ordinary outing in Shillong.
