Robin Singh: Ashley Westwood is my sole motivation

The India international believes that the coach’s belief in his talent has improved him as a player…

Robin Singh has been in good form lately for Bengaluru FC. He won a late penalty against Salgaocar FC and coolly dispatched it to win crucial three points against home in the I-League.

Thereafter he bagged a brace against Sporting Clube de Goa in the 5-3 win at the Federation Cup where his goals edged the tie in favour of the southern outfit.

“Ashley Westwood is my sole motivation and he is really behind me. He has been pushing me throughout. If your coach believes in you, there is a different feeling altogether.

“I have had all coaches pushing me all throughout my career but Westwood is of a different level and class,” he told Goal.

Robin was one of the guests present at the Nike MUPC finals in Pune last month and he spoke of the importance to start playing early for better development as a player.

“The sooner you start the better it is. Some people do not have the advantage of starting early. In India, most of the boys start at the age of 15 or16.  When I was growing up we didn’t have these tournaments around. People being abroad start very early.

“I started at the age of 17. If I would have started early, things could have been different. I am not saying I have not done anything for the country as yet but the early you start the better it is.”
