A string of bad performances have cast a shadow over the Australian's future at the club with a host of senior players’ performances to be reviewed as well...
Mohammedan Sporting could well yield the axe over Tolgay Ozbey’s time at the club as the executive committee gear up to take a final call over the frontman.
The Australian striker had already been show-caused by the club for showing dissent after expressing disappointment with being substituted in an I-League game against Dempo on November 30th.
“We will discuss a number of issues on Thursday. Tolgay’s reply to the showcause letter is one of them,” explained a club official. It is also understood that the performances of several senior and foreign players will be reviewed as well.
In a significant twist, Ozbey was asked to stay away from newly appointed coach Sanjoy Sen’s inaugural meeting with the club's players. “I don’t have any say on Tolgay’s future. It’s the club’s call. If he is retained I’ll definitely sit with him and try to solve his problem,” replied Sen to questions regarding Ozbey.
Being 11th in the table just a point above the relegation zone doesn’t make good reading for a coach who led his team to the top tier of the I-League last year before he was replaced by Bola Moshood.
Sanjoy Sen has also gone on to admit, “I’m not a P.C. Sorcar who would help Mohammedan Sporting’s problems vanish in a second. Just like winning, losing can also become a habit. The team is going through such a phase and we have to change it quickly.” He takes charge of the club on December 30.
Mohammedan play their next home game against Shillong Lajong FC in February.
