Sporting Clube de Goa coach Oscar Bruzon Barreras stated that his side deserved the three points against Salgaocar FC that took them level on points (18) with their Goan counterparts.
"We deserved the victory as we were the team who had the control over the game. During the 90 minutes, we combined very well with our touch and move football and then when Salgaocar were putting a lot of players ahead, we put very good counter attacks," he said after the match.
Bruzon was however skeptical on the number of chances wasted by his players which included a 10th minute penalty taken by Ogba Kalu Nnana which was saved by Salgaocar FC goalkeeper Karanjit Singh before the Nigerian made amends in the 23rd minute.
"We are trying to be perfect as we have a very good set of players. I told the guys at half-time 'you played very well, but not excellent'. Excellent would be finishing the amount of chances that we had," the Spaniard added.
With striker Boima Karpeh putting on a good show, the coach admitted that he was forced to hold back from making substitutions.
Bruzon commented: "I would like Victorino [Fernandes] to come in and break the game in a counter attack. However with Jerry (Karpeh) did not give me too much opportunity to make the substitution because he was understanding very well when Kalu was coming up. That's why I made my last changes in the last five minutes. Technical changes or whatever you want to say.
"I always look to make tactical changes in the second half as you can see in the last games, but today the team was playing almost perfect. But for playing perfect, we need to finish our chances and this is happening in a lot of games. So we will be working on passes, through-passes, finishing, heading, one-on-one...that's what we need to do a lot and feel for sure that we can be a top team."
Asked about the game plan he employed against Salgaocar, the 36-year-old replied, " We played for a good performance, knowing that and by doing it, the result should come."
Sporting Clube de Goa striker Dawson Fernandes will undergo a surgery on right knee for an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury sustained at the Indian national team camp held last month at the Sesa Football Academy grounds, Thivim-Goa and Bruzon declared that Sunday's win is dedicated to the Goan.
"This victory is dedicated to Dawson. He is an ex-Salgaocar player and has this injury, so we want to share this victory with him also. He will out for a minimum of five months. In a lot of games he has come in the second half and finished the game for us," Bruzon reflected.
