Top and Flop: Dempo SC 1-1 Pune FC

The Goan side paid for their profligacy upfront as the Red Lizards nicked a goal to level the score...
Welcome to Goal's new I-League feature: Top and Flop. For every game, a candidate will be put forward, as chosen by Goal, who deserves recognition for achieving something special. It won't necessarily be the best player in the league - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. In the same vein, we will also name a player whose performance wasn’t up to the mark on the given day and eventually came to hurt his side.

TOP: ROBERTO MENDES DA SILVA

Beto latched onto a pass from Holicharan Narzary and put the ball home with a calm finish to give his side the lead in the 47th minute. He won a number of second balls and intercepted several passes in the midfield to launch a string of attacks especially in the second half.

The Brazilian could have also scored a brilliant goal - similar to the one scored by Arsenal's Dennis Bergkamp against Newcastle United in the 2001-02 season. Pune FC's Srikanth Ramu cleared the danger away else it would have certainly gone down as one of the best goals scored in the I-League ever.

FLOP: JAMES MEYER

The Australian had a comparatively quiet afternoon and should have at least hit the target when he shot a loose ball wide from the edge of the box in the sixth minute. His crosses also weren't good enough to create chances and rightly replaced in the 59th minute as he was ineffective.
