An entertaining tie saw the spoils shared between The Blue and Whites of Rangdajied and the Reds of Lajong in the first ever Shillong derby...Welcome to Goal's new I-League feature: Top and Flop. For every game, a candidate will be put forward, as chosen by Goal, who deserves recognition for achieving something special. It won't necessarily be the best player in the league - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. In the same vein, we will also name a player whose performance wasn’t up to the mark on the given day and eventually came to hurt his side.
|TOP: SUBRATA PAUL
For Rangdajied United FC, IMG-R signing Subrata Paul could not have joined the ranks at a better time as if not for his heroics, Shillong Lajong FC could have quietly walked away with three points from the first ever Shillong derby on Friday. Paul swung into serious action right from the first half when he thwarted an advancing Cornell Glen from reaching for the ball, denying Lajong their first real chance of the match. The India goalie made a point-blank save around the hour mark to deny a Taisuke Matsugae header. No surprises that Rangdajied coach Santosh Kashyap singled out Paul and praised him for the brilliant show.
| FLOP: EUGENESON LYNGDOH
Back in the squad for the derby after a prolonged knee injury, Eugeneson Lyngdoh had a forgettable outing against a club he once called his own. The local lad appeared sloppy on more than one occasion in the midfield and squandered possession to give his “friendly foes” the fillip. Perhaps emotion got the better of performance for the Rangdajied captain on “momentous” Friday.
