Dempo SC - Churchill Brothers SC Preview: High profile Goan derby to add spice in the midweek

Two teams who haven't been in the best of forms square-off at the Duler Stadium on Wednesday afternoon
Dempo SC and Churchill Brothers SC shall go head-to-head in a round nine I-League clash with both sides plunged in the bottom half of the table.

When was the last time when thse two sides met and they had a goal difference which was in the negative? Arguably the most attacking sides in the league, they seem to be suffering with the problem of not scoring enough goals.

While Churchill have scored 8 from seven games, Dempo have a slightly better record with eight. Dempo's Billy Mehmet has got into good scoring positions only to fluff the opportunity. He has just one goal to his name which has been scored from the spot.

Churchill have already parted ways with their Syrian striker, Ahmad Al Kaddour who didn't break his duck in four matches where he mostly made appearances from the bench. Henri Antchouet has been injured and that hasn't helped matters for the Red Machines.

Dempo have just one win to their name and on the other hand, Churchill haven't even managed that. The two teams are under transition, while in Dempo's case it was more planned as opposed to their counterparts.

In derby games, usually the form is thrown out of the window and Dempo coach Arthur Papas agrees.

"This is a derby match and the ladder becomes some what irrelevant as both teams are playing for more than 3 points tomorrow and I have reiterated this message to the team. It will be as much tactical as emotional and the team that shows the most desire and the 'will to win' which will go a long way in determining the outcome," he mentioned.

Subhash Bhowmick, the technical director of Churchill Brothers, and coach Mariano Dias have a tough task ahead of them as they hope to register the first full points in the season before the league goes into a two-week break.

"Dempo is a strong side. Make no mistake about their strength just because they have not started winning. But while Dempo is a good side, my team can only get better," claimed Bhowmick.

All roads in Goa would lead to Duler Stadium in this midweek clash. The two struggling sides will hope to put on a show for their supporters and end their miserable run of form.
