Arthur Papas: It’s not all doom and gloom at Dempo

The Australian was disappointed with his team’s showing as what they did was in stark contrast to what was instructed…

Arthur Papas was critical of his team after Dempo SC succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Bengaluru FC. Two goals inside the opening quarter saw his side being pegged back and another goal after the hour mark further worsen their chances of getting something out of the tie. Though skipper Clifford Miranda pulled one back, the Goan outfit were a shadow of the side that beat East Bengal 3-1 in their previous game.

"You can't go down 2-0 after ten minutes and expect to get a result. We spoke about being compact and putting pressure on Bengaluru but it was the opposite,” said Papas.

Dempo’s defense has been poor all throughout this season, except for a good performance against the Red and Gold. They do not have adequate cover for Simon Colosimo and Shinnosuke Honda at the back.

"I'm disappointed with all the goals because every time you score or someone scores, it's come from someone's error. We didn't track the runners, we didn't clear effectively hence we were punished,” he explained.

Dempo SC have only managed a win in their five outings and have drawn and lost two each. Papas called for some consistent performances from his team if they have any hopes of climbing in the standings.

"It's the first time we've lost since round one so it's not all doom and gloom but we need to create some consistency in the way we go about things."
