Top and Flop: Churchill Brothers SC 0-2 Mumbai FC

The Red Machines suffered their second defeat in three matches as they were guilty of missing several opportunities...
Welcome to Goal's new I-League feature: Top and Flop. For every game, a candidate will be put forward, as chosen by Goal, who deserves recognition for achieving something special. It won't necessarily be the best player in the league - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. In the same vein, we will also name a player whose performance wasn’t up to the mark on the given day and eventually came to hurt his side.

The former United Sikkim defender stood tall to every delivery that was intended towards the two Churchill Brothers forwards, namely Henri Antchouet and Balwant Singh. The only time Ali was beaten was when Balwant cut past him in the 56th minute to cross in from the left. A sturdy performance at the back by him and coach Khalid Jamil singled him out when lavishing praise on his team's display.

Antchouet could have changed the direction of the game had he scored the first half penalty when both sides were locked in a goalless affair. Not only was his spot-kick blocked by Kunal Sawant, but the Gabon international then shockingly couldn't get a good enough touch to slot in the rebound. He failed to capitalise on the two opportunities he had later in the game to make amends for his penalty gaffe.
