John Johnson's header was enough to see Bengaluru past United SC in what was a closely contested encounter.Welcome to Goal's new I-League feature: Top and Flop. For every game, a candidate will be put forward, as chosen by Goal, who deserves recognition for achieving something special. It won't necessarily be the best player in the league - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. In the same vein, we will also name a player whose performance wasn’t up to the mark on the given day and eventually came to hurt his side.
|TOP: JOHN JOHNSON
John Johnson got Bengaluru FC off to a flyer with his headed goal in the fourth minute. That really set the tone for the rest of the game and he threatened from set-pieces later on as well. He was a rock at the back for the hosts who needed him to be on top of his game as United SC threatened to find an equalizer on numerous occasions. His composure in defense came to the fore as he marshaled the rest of the back four expertly.
| FLOP: SANGRAM MUKHERJEE
Sangram Mukherjee may have only conceded one goal but had a few nervous moments. For the first goal, he came off his line to punch the ball clear but got nowhere near it and Johnson was able to score. He fumbled Sean Rooney's strike which was hit straight at him and was fortunate to see a defender block Sunil Chhetri's effort on the rebound. The Bengaluru skipper put him under pressure when he closed him down while he tried to clear ball which struck the striker's head and nearly found its way to goal.
