The Englishman is bullish about his team’s I-League prospects after decapitating Rangdajied United in their latest league match...
Yet two games into the I-League’s 7thedition, he finds his team in second place in the Indian top division's table and though early season indicators are nothing to go by, he may have a winning formula for the longer term at his disposal.
Speaking in a post-match interview after thrashing Rangdajied United by three goals to nil, Westwood lent insight into the ticking mechanism at his club.
“The game is played over 90 minutes and a little more. We play every minute like it’s our last,” elucidated a calm but enthusiastic Westwood.
Sunil Chhetri, who had snubbed IMG-Reliance’s overtures and likewise those of Churchill Brothers, had missed a fair few chances that he should have easily dispatched. But Westwood chose to differ.
He added that he was never worried about Chhetri hitting the target. “He’s a smart player and knows what he is doing.”
“I'm not really worried about missed chances. The fact that we are creating chances means we are doing something right,” explained the Briton.
"A win always works as motivation and what was pleasing about today was the fact that we kept a clean sheet. Having been a defender myself, it's something I always want," concluded the manager, explaining his mantra for a good day at the office.
