Shillong Lajong are poor travellers. They could accumulate a mere eight points from a possible 39 in their away matches last term. They could only manage three points in eight games against Goan sides, of which just a point was won in Goa.
Coach Thangboi Singto acknowledged that the team hasn’t always delivered results away from home and gave his reasons for the same.
"We left Shillong at 6 in the morning and landed in Goa at about 8 pm (on Thursday). It has always been challenging because of the travelling. It's quite taxing on the body and the mind when you don't have proper rest,” Singto told Goal.
"It's always been a jinx coming to Goa to play against them. We have not been doing well against Goan teams in Goa. I think the last match we won against a Goan team here was when we beat Sporting Clube de Goa 1-0 in the 2009-10 season. After that I think we haven't really done much against Goan oppositions,” he recollected.
They face Arthur Papas’ Dempo SC in their opening fixture of the I-League 2013-14 season on Sunday, 22 September, and Singto remains optimistic of getting a positive result.
"It's a good challenge for us to do well and start the season positively. Dempo will be expecting to do well and so will we. We will aim to get a good result,” he said.
