Seiji Saito, who has represented the likes of Sao Paolo ‘B’, Kashiwa Reysol and Kawasaki Frontale, will be released by Salgaocar FC after being signed close to two months back.

The attacking midfielder hasn’t been able to get to full fitness and coach Derrick Pereira mentioned of already looking for a replacement.

“After signing, Seiji Saito came back with an ankle injury. He came in late and was the last foreign player to join us as he had some visa issues. Since then he has been struggling for fitness. We are looking for a replacement. We will try to get an attacking midfielder but if we get a good defensive midfielder, we will sign the player,” Pereira informed Goal.

Salgaocar FC face Churchill Brothers in their opening game of the I-League 2013-14 season and the former Pune FC gaffer believes that the defending champions are a strong unit despite having lost several key players over the summer.

“It will be a tough game. It’s a touch and go situation for both teams. The teams will have to find their strength without their full teams. l would say that their midfield is very strong. We are eager to get a positive result. We have to be 100 percent focussed and be positive,” he mentioned.

The two sides had met earlier this season in the Goa League which ended in a goalless draw with Salgaocar missing a couple of one-on-one chances.
