The defending champions hope to retain their crown despite seeing a lot of their star players leave at the end of the last campaign...
Churchill Alemao, the chairman of Churchill Brothers, believes that his side are well prepared for the I-League as they begin their title defense against Salgaocar FC on Saturday.
“Preparations are on the right track and the strategy is at its best to get the crown. I have full confidence in my team including everybody from players to coaches that they would do well and make Churchill Brothers proud,” he told The Navhind Times.
The team’s form has been exceptional in the Goa League and if that is an indicator, surely they are the team to beat in the I-League.
“The team has so far done very well in the Goa Pro-League. Having won seven out of nine matches with two draws, the team has collected 23 points and is standing at the top of the league table. We have so far remained unbeaten which gives me the indication that my team is moving in the right direction under the guidance of coach Mariano Dias and technical director Sukhwinder Singh,” he said.
Alemao exuded confidence and stated that they shall win the league title again as his players are in good shape.
“Let them (players) concentrate on the game and be focussed and this is what I expect from them. If they continue to do that I have no doubt in my mind that the title would be ours this time as well,” he said.
Valanka Alemao, the club’s CEO, backed the players to deliver this time around as well as they have a squad which is a mix of experience and youth.
“Ours is a very young team with some experienced players and that perhaps has helped in maintaining a good balance and form, which is quite evident from our unbeaten run in the Goa Pro League. The team’s main aim is to win the I-League crown once again, and I am confident that the players will do their best to win it,” she said.
Technical director Sukhwinder Singh had devised a strategy for the team and is confident that they can put that into practice to achieve the desired results.
“Our task is cut out and we are working hard with the players to reach the peak. We have some strategies and are currently working on the same to put it into perfection,” Sukhwinder said.
