Ranti Martins has put all speculations on his future to rest by stating that he wishes to stick on with United SC despite their financial troubles.
The club is yet to rope in a sponsor and hasn’t paid an advance to any of their players. In spite of all their problems, they have kick-started their pre-season a couple of days back.
“Yes, I will be staying with United SC this season. I know there are some problems, but in life, there are good times and there are tough times,” Ranti was quoted saying in The Times of India.
“It would not be right to leave the club at this juncture. (Club director) Siddhartha (Bhattacharya) and other officials are very committed and have given me an assurance. Moreover, the coach (Eelco Schattorie) and other senior players are also staying. I am hopeful that things will get better very soon,” he added.
Ranti, who has been the top scorer in the I-League for the last two seasons, believes that United SC will be up among the best this year too after having finished fourth last term.
“We have started our pre-season preparations a bit late but I’m still quite confident that we’ll be able to do well. We have to work hard,” said Ranty. “A few players like Carlos Hernandez, Kayne Vincent and Gourmangi Singh are not there with the team this season, but we still have a good squad.”
He is likely to be named in the Nigerian squad for a friendly in November and the player is excited over the same. “I am really looking forward to playing for the national team. It would be a great thing for me,” he said.
