United SC's director Siddhartha Bhattacharya spoke on the "tough days" the club is enduring from but remained hopeful that the situation would soon resolve.
They are the only club in the 15-team league to not have started their pre-season with coach Eelco Schattorie yet to report to their Kolkata base.
"I hope that he (Eelco Schattorie) will be coming soon...Tough days are on, but still we are trying to make things possible. I think we will start our pre-season very soon, because we are already late. Everybody has started and we are going to start very soon," Bhattacharya informed GOAL.
He acknowledged that due to their inability to attract a sponsor over the summer, the club hasn’t yet been able to put together a team for the 2013-14 season. As a result, several players from his team are being linked with a move away.
"It's because of the sponsorship problem. You know that there is a big problem with sponsorship all over Bengal," he stated.
"That (rumours of players leaving) always happens. Unless and until you start your practice, it will keep happening."
The Kolkata-based outfit are likely to not rope in a fourth foreign player as Bhattacharya claimed it wouldn’t be financially feasible for them.
"We got some players and we will take some more. Let's see how we keep it within our budget," he said.
"Among the foreigners we got Bello [Rasaq], Eric [Brown] and Ranti [Martins]. The fourth foreigner - we will see. If we get some options and if he doesn't have a contract, he can come even after the transfer window."
