thumbnail Hello,

The adoption and training of youngsters in the club’s elite development programmes for all age group teams is a key cornerstone of the partnership

The young aspiring footballers of St. Brittos High School, Mapusa, were in for a very pleasant surprise when Fr. Cedric Fernandes, the headmaster of the school, endorsed and sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the school and Dempo SC, in the presence of Dempo chairman Shrinivas Dempo and his enforcer in the dugout, coach Arthur Papas, in a grand ceremony.

“Traditionally not many football clubs have been able to tap the talent from North Goa. But, with Dempos showing interest towards our players I am sure there will be many stars in football from North Goa." enlightened Fr. Cedric, consecrating the venture while at the same time spurring on the club to harness the football potential for development from northern Goa, to make Dempo an even more socially empowered club.

Chipping in on the issue of player development, head coach Arthur Papas said, “Player development is something which is close to my heart, It is better for us if we open such football centers for the junior teams so that the best players can be spotted at the right age."

Each team that shall be weeded out from the school will be subjected to a training school developed by the junior coaches of the club and supervised by Papas. The objective is to increase the talent pool at the club and creating an excess of opportunities for players to impress all and sundry with their talent.

The focus of development and induction into the youth teams will be from the 14 to 18 age group.

In this regard, a visibly proud Shrinivas Dempo said, “I am glad that we have taken this initiative to reach to the various schools and spot talents among them. The main idea behind this plan is to develop the overall personality of the children along with creating opportunities for them to play at a higher level. Over the years, we would like to train and develop the best among them for our senior teams.”

As per terms of agreement between the club and school, the children will be enlightened on various important aspects of football like, fitness, technical skills honing, nutritional experts’ advice and exercise regimes, injury prevention seminars. This was coupled with proposals for hosting of football camps for school children in Mapusa. The kits would be taken care of by the club.

Dempo had previously sealed a similar MoU with Fr. Agnel's High School, Pilar, who’s club has constantly seen success in football competitions since.
