thumbnail Hello,

The East Bengal finisher believes addition of quality signings will have a lasting impact on his as well as the club's form...

Edeh Chidi is no stranger to the I-League fan club. Starting off with Mohammedan Sporting, he quickly scripted his future while playing for Sporting Clube de Goa in the erstwhile NFL season 2004-05 season forming a trailblazing partnership with Dudu Obagbemi helping his team to a runners-up position.

Now at the top of his own career at red and golds of East Bengal, Chidi wants to emulate a fearful partnership with in-form striker and latest East Bengal capture, James Moga, like he did with Dudu.

“Dudu and I had a wonderful understanding… That was the reason behind our success when we played together… I want to develop that same sort of understanding with Moga… If we click together, we can pose a huge threat,” elucidated the Nigerian-born Bengal hitman to The Telegraph.

While contemplating a great strike force, Chidi acknowledges fan support as key and wants to reward the faithful, especially after missing out on a few opportunities last season. Praising the signings of Ryuji Sueoka and James Moga, Chidi believes that the steps taken by East Bengal emanate their intent on winning silverware and taking steps in the right direction.

“We have a very balanced side… We have a complete team this season… There is no reason why we cannot win the I-League. The combination between Moga, Sueoka and me will be extremely crucial to our success. They were in ominous form last season… If they can carry that form this season, we can work wonders,” expressed Chidi, who also revealed that high expectations are pressing down on him.

He did however point to Moga and Sueoka, claiming them to be the correct antidotes to help him bear and share the pressures of a famous club. “Last season, I was under tremendous pressure to perform and score goals. The arrival of Moga and Sueoka will certainly take the pressure off me… They are both quality players and we have to perform in unison,” concluded Chidi.
