Sporting Clube de Goa are on the brink of completing the signing of central defender as Gonzalo Caicedo Verdú, GOAL can reveal.
The towering defender arrived in Goa on Wednesday and will be undergo a medical before officially putting pen to paper.
"He (Gonzalo) has arrived today and had to undergo his medicals before we can call him our player," the club's CEO Victor Fernandes disclosed to GOAL.
Meanwhile, the Flaming Oranje head coach Oscar Bruzon Barreras feels that the former CA Osasuna B player, who last appeared for Orihuela CF in the Spanish third division, is an "important" addition to his squad.
"I have seen videos of him (Gonzalo) and some of my colleagues have also played with him. I have also got references from some friends of mine who are working as coaches and scouts, and have watched him. He has played almost all the games last season and he is fit. So I think he can be one of the important players [for Sporting Goa] this season," he said.
"We (Sporting Goa) are also looking to sign players in the attack, on the wing and someone who can help in the defense," the Spanish tactician added.
Gonzalo has played most of his football in the third division in Spain, except for a mere six games for Spanish second division side Albecete in 2011. Sporting Goa will be his career's first overseas assignment.
