I-League champions to play an invitational tournament in Qatar

The Goan club will participate in a tournament as part of their pre-season preparations for the upcoming season…

Churchill Brothers SC have been invited by Qatar’s Al Ahli to participate in a tournament later this month which shall feature clubs from five nations.

The I-League champions, who shall kick-start their pre-season training under assistant coach Willy Moraes starting Monday with technical director Sukhwinder Singh expected to join only on the 15th of this month and coach Mariano Dias attending the pro-license course in Mumbai, have agreed to take part in the tournament.

Sudan’s Al Hilal and Al Merrikh and a team each from Philippines and Bangladesh have also been invited to participate in the six-team knockout tournament.

“They (Al Ahli) contacted us via a dad’s (Churchill Alemao) friend. It’s a feel good factor that someone in Qatar wants us to come and play. In India, there is not even a proper award ceremony where they would call us,” Churchill Brothers CEO Valanka Alemao informed Goal.
