FC Midtjylland has an exceptional track record in youth development and its academy and as part of the deal with Dempo SC, and as part of the deal they have given a commitment to help provide the Goan club with technical knowhow, knowledge of marketing & administration as well as a strong focus on youth development.
“We have procured land. We have already started discussions. They (Midtjylland) have given us the plan on how to roll out the academy. It is going to be a joint venture project where 50% funding will come from the Danish club and 50% from us. The only factor which is beyond our control is that Goa has yet to finalize its regional plan. Our land zoning is not confirmed because of the regional plan. We are just waiting for that clearance. Probably in the next three to four months, we should be successful in getting that,” Dempo told Goal.
The All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) vice-president intends to have two pitches and a hostel for the academy boys.
“Pending that (regional plan being finalized), all our plans are in place, including the architect. We are looking at two pitches – an artificial and natural. We are looking at a hostel for boys in the range between 35 to 50. We will build it in phases. It’s not that we will start with 50. We will probably start with 15 and then take it up. We are also trying to tie up with a school so that these boys get their full fledged education. We also have plans to set up our own school but in the meantime, we will have a tie-up with local schools.”
