Haroon Amiri extends his contract with Mumbai FC

The Afghan international has chosen to stay with the Mumbai outfit for another season in the I-League…

After having had an impressive season with Mumbai FC, Haroon Amiri has put an end to the rumuors surrounding his future by choosing to stay with the Essel Group backed side.

While the 23 year old had stated that he could possibly be not at Mumbai FC for the 2013-14 season, Khalid Jamil has convinced the versatile player to remain at the club.

Amiri also bagged the prestigious ‘Fans’ player of the year’ award for the recently concluded season at the Football Players Association of India’s (FPAI) Indian Football awards in Mumbai.

“He is a very good player and has been with us for the last two seasons. He has been playing in the I-League and knows the strengths and weaknesses for most strikers and how to defend against them. He has a good fan following too," Atul Badgamia, deputy vice-president of Mumbai FC, told Goal.

Mumbai FC have also extended the contracts of John Coutinho, Ashutosh Mehta and Jayesh Rane for another season. Branco Cardozo of Air India have already joined their ranks after having had an injury ravaged campaign.

Meanwhile Badgamia asserted that his club will not sign any player who is associated with IMG-Reliance's proposed IPL-style league. The I-League Professional Football Clubs Association (IPFCA) had earlier stated that none of the clubs would loan their players for the said league of All India Football Federation's (AIFF) commercial and marketing partners.

“We, as IPFCA, have taken the decision and we can’t. I don't think anyone would sign these players. No matter how big the player is, we will not sign them. We have to stick together," Badgamia said.
