The former Air India skipper is in talks with the Kolkata club to close down on a move…
Vijith Shetty, who plied his trade at Air India for the last seven years, is set to don the Green and Maroon colours in the upcoming season.
The 31-year old, who was named twice in Goal’s I-League team of the round last season, has requested Air India to release him for two years, following which he shall return to the Airmen.
“I spoke to my head of the department. By tomorrow, I will get my release hopefully. Thereafter I shall call Mohun Bagan and inform them that I am getting a release for two years. I won’t lose my job at the club despite the two years release,” he told Goal.
Shetty is to sign a one-year deal and was in the desired list of players wanted by coach Karim Bencherifa for the next campaign.
“Mohammedan Sporting had also shown an interest but the offer from Mohun Bagan was better and hence I told Mohammedan of my decision to opt for Bagan.
“I haven’t yet spoken to Karim Bencherifa but was contacted by two senior Mohun Bagan officials.”
