Nicholas Rodrigues has decided to re-sign with Mumbai FC, for whom he played last season, deciding to snub a bigger offer from Mohun Bagan, who were keen on signing the left sided player.
The utility midfielder had a great season with Mumbai FC during the last campaign, and looked set to join Gabriel Fernandes, Justin Stephen and Haroon Amiri on the way out of the club, but has had a change of heart, after Mohun Bagan refused to accept a few demands he put to the club.
As Goal had earlier revealed, the player was close to putting pen-to-paper with the Kolkatan outfit, but has now instead signed for Khalid Jamil’s side.
Speaking exclusively to Goal, Nicholas revealed, “Yes I have signed with Mumbai FC, as Mohun Bagan were not agreeing to put certain clauses that I wanted in the contract.”
While the midfielder refused to mention what the clauses were, Goal learned from sources close to the club, that it was related to the advance the club were offering.
Joining the player at the club will be Branco Cardozo, who is set to be roped in by Mumbai FC as a replacement for Gabriel Fernandes, who moved to Dempo SC.
The forward is looking to rejuvenate his career, after a stop-start couple of years, and did not see much action with Air India last year.
However Goal understands that Khalid Jamil hopes to get the player back to optimum fitness levels, and thinks he is good enough to replace Fernandes in the team.
