Having signed Wahid Sali and Rino Anto in a bid to strengthen their defense, Mohun Bagan have now moved to quickly bring in Sandip Nandy, to end the uncertainty around who would be their first choice goalkeeper for next year.
The custodian had joined Churchill Brothers last season and re-invigorated his career in Goa, to the extent that he earned a national team call-up.
However, as exclusively revealed by Goal a few days earlier, the goalkeeper decided against staying at Churchill brothers for next season, after the club refused to meet his demands.
Nandy was keen to return to Kolkata, where he used to play for East Bengal before, and was said to have held negotiations with a couple of clubs from the city, before eventually signing for Mohun Bagan today.
Revealing details of the deal, Abhishek Wakankar from Libero Sports, who are his agents, told Goal, “Sandip Nandy’s move to Mohun Bagan has been completed. He has signed up with them on a one year deal.”
The player was said to have attracted the interested of Mumbai Tigers, as well as having been offered a contract by the new league being promoted by IMG-Reliance, but decided to play for Karim Bencherifa’s side for the next campaign.
The future of Arindam Bhattacharya, who had moved to Mohun Bagan from Churchill Brothers last season, but had a poor season due to injury, is now in question.
Libero Sports helped complete the deal.
