After losing Gabriel Fernandes to Dempo SC, Mumbai FC are set to lose another vital member of their last season’s squad, with left sided midfielder Nicholas Rodrigues set to leave the club.
Goal understands that Mohun Bagan seem set to win the race for the talented winger who can also fill-in as wing-back, beating off the challenge of a couple of Goan outfits and Kolkatan side Mohammedan Sporting.
A source close to Goal stated, “Mohun Bagan are confident of sealing the deal. They have already agreed on the amount and have even sent a contract to the player. Discussions are still on, regarding a couple of clauses in the agreement, but it should be sealed soon.”
Rodrigues, who featured in Goal’s I-League Team of the Season, is expected to officially complete the move in the next 48 hours, and put pen-to-paper on a one year deal, which would represent a hefty increase on his present salary at Mumbai FC.
For the Mariners, the addition of the versatile left sided player is a good addition to the squad, as his pin-point crosses are the kind of service that Odafa Okolie would flourish on. Also with rumours of Syed Rahim Nabi looking at his options for next season, Nicholas could very well be a handy replacement.
