The Brazilian midfielder has entertained the possibility of returning his former club after winning the I-League title with Churchill Brothers..
Post Churchill Brothers’ sensational road to the top as I-League champions, a lot of their players’ future was thrown into question. Influential midfielder Beto has already set his sights on a move away from Churchill as he revealed to The Times of India that he was very close to a return to Dempo SC. The 33-year old Brazilian had spent 6 fruitful years with The Golden Eagles before making the move to Churchill.
Beto had won four National League titles under the tutelage of Armando Colaco at Dempo and became one of the most adored footballers in Goa.
“It will be great to be with Dempo (again). I have already agreed terms with the club,” Beto confirmed to Times of India on Monday.
But his time at Dempo was not all that smooth as he had tried to force his way out of the club forcefully before the management told him to fulfill his contractual obligations. Churchill Brothers were one of the clubs that were hoping to sign him then.
“Churchill was an enriching experience. Like I always said, I wanted to win the I-League with a different club and Churchill, at that time, appealed to me the most. They were passionate about football and I knew I could achieve my dream and help Churchill realize their dream too. Once that was done, it was time to move on,” explained the Brazilian.
Dempo who have had a season to forget will be looking for a fresh start next year and Beto seemingly is part of that initiative.
“I have spoken to Dempo officials and they have explained the new project to me. It’s very appealing,” signed off Beto.
