Opinions are divided as to who shall take over the reins at the AIFF developmental side next season…
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) have interviewed two candidates for the coaching job at developmental side Pailan Arrows and are yet to come to a conclusion given the divided views on the same.
Robert Baan, the AIFF Technical Director, had appointed Arthur Papas last season and it would be fair to state that the latter did a commendable job in developing the players.
However his tenure at the club wasn’t smooth as Papas announced his decision to not continue for the following season.
“It just depends on what I think is best for my career and the project. Because you have to have support from everyone, you need support from the sponsors, from the federation to do the job properly. It's not what you see on the ground, it is about what happens during the week,” he had mentioned back in March this year.
According to sources close to Goal, Baan is keen to have Santosh Kashyap, who has done a fantastic job at ONGC this season by not only saving them from relegation but also the brand of football he professes is in line with what the technical director wants to deploy at the Arrows.
Meanwhile Sanjoy Sen put in his papers after successfully helping Mohammedan Sporting qualify for the top division next season.
“It requires 100 per cent commitment to successfully coach a team like Mohammedan Sporting. One simply cannot afford to be half-hearted while being the coach of such a historic club. Considering the present circumstances, I’m really not in a position to devote full time to the club,” he was quoted saying.
Last week Sen was called in for an interview as certain officials at the AIFF believe him to be an ideal candidate to lead Pailan Arrows next season.
Kashyap has been approached by Mohammedan Sporting too last week having taken note of his achievements over the course of the last two seasons.
It remains to be seen whether the AIFF opt to back themselves or prefer to pay heed to what the technical director has to say.
