After the narrow loss to Shillong Lajong which saw East Bengal finish 3rd in the I-League, Morgan stressed that he still had the AFC Cup and Kolkata League to play for...After East Bengal went down by a solitary goal in their final encounter against Shillong Lajong, coach Trevor Morgan was satisfied with the team's showing in this season.
When he was asked about the performance against the north east brigade, he was quick to analyse that a poor first half and the lack of finishing in the second in spite of the myriad opportunities created, is what cost them the encounter.
"The team today was completely different out there today. Of course you want to win. I am really hurt that we could not win. We had a poor first half. But in second half we had chance after chance."
He was however candid enough to say that a defeat after the second half performance was one acceptable to him as they played proper football.
"It was very very disappointing but we lost the right way in the second half. I don't like it but I can accept it.
The second half was hundred percent better than the first. We can't create opportunities and then keep missing."
The one positive he took out of the match was the lack of any injuries while obviously being disappointed with the defeat. This is keeping in mind that they still had the Kolkata League to win and the AFC Cup to take care of.
"The positive for me is that we got no injuries while the negative for me is that we lost. We have still got 3 games left, the possibility of moving through in the last eight of Asia and the chance of winning the Kolkata League. Today is over and we have come third."
When asked to assess his overall performance all throughout his tenure, Morgan was pretty clear in his assessment that although he would have obviously liked to have won an I-League in his three seasons being in charge, what he did was commendable considering the position they were in before he took over.
"I am satisfied with 2 seconds and a third. I would have been delighted had we won it. But I am not unsatisfied especially keeping in mind where the club was before I took over."
Morgan also refused to comment on the speculation surrounding his future and his association with East Bengal Football Club next season.
