'I am the only Goan to be nominated in the FPAI Fans' Player of the year award' - Lenny Rodrigues

Churchill Brothers SC play-maker Lenny Rodrigues feels "great" about everything that surrounds the I-League triumph with his team and being nominated by the Football Players Association of India (FPAI) in their annual Indian Football Awards.

"It's amazing to win this year's I-League. It feels great to be nominated [for the FPAI Fans' Player of the Year award]. If I win it, it will be great as I have given my best for my club and country," the India midfielder told Goal.

"For me it’s a good thing. It is good for my career, that we are winning. Since I am the only Goan [among the nominees] it will great for all the Goans," added Lenny, who is also the only nominee amongst all the four Goan outfits playing in Indian football's top flight.

The other candidates for the awards are Carlos Hernandez, Lalkamal Bhowmick (both Prayag United SC), James Moga, Izumi Arata (both Pune FC), Haroon Fakruddin Amiri (Mumbai FC) and Lalrindika Ralte (East Bengal).

Lenny also praised the efforts of the FPAI towards providing security to players in terms of helping them with their contracts. "The FPAI are doing a lot to help players with contract extension which sometimes the clubs do not do," he remarked.

"My contract [with Churchill Brothers] is there and I think the same team is remaining," the youngster revealed.
