The former Prayag United coach led the Black Panthers to the I-League and has cited personal commitments as a reason for his resignation....

Mohammedan Sporting’s joy of qualifying for the I-League took a dent when their coach Sanjoy Sen announced his decision to step down from the position. The former Prayag United gaffer had led the Kolkata side to victory in I-League Division 2 to ensure that they will compete in the 2013-14 season of the I-League.

Sen’s decision, however, was not an unexpected one. A few days back, he had revealed to The Telegraph that with his son Class X Board examinations approaching, it would be difficult for him to continue as the Mohammedan Sporting coach.

“He (Sen) has some personal issues because of which he has to discontinue. We respect his decision and so released him,” said club president Sultan Ahmed to The Telegraph.

Sen knew that he would not be able to give his all for the club in addition to his personal commitments and hence came to the decision to resign.

“It requires 100 per cent commitment to successfully coach a team like Mohammedan Sporting. One simply cannot afford to be half-hearted while being the coach of such a historic club. Considering the present circumstances, I’m really not in a position to devote full time to the club,” he explained.

Brazilian Carlos Pereira, former Mohun Bagan technical director Subrata Bhattacharya and current ONGC coach Santosh Kashyap are touted as possible replacements for the outgoing Sen.

“We’ll finalise everything only after May 15,” Ahmed clarified.
