‘It’s an honour for me to be nominated for this award’ - Mumbai FC's Haroon Amiri

Goal caught up with the Mumbai FC player and talked to him about his second season in the I-League and his nomination for the FPAI Fans Player of the Year award

It is always a happy moment for a player when fans recognise his/her achievements on the field and nominate them for the award for Best Player of the Season. Mumbai FC's Haroon Amiri is no different when he was nominated for the FPAI Fans Player of the Year award

When asked about the nomination and how he felt, the Afghanistan player replied enthusiastically, “I am feeling great and really happy. It is only my second season and I feel proud of my nomination.”

“It’s really an honor for me to be nominated for this award. Especially as I am the only from outside the top 4, it makes me really happy," said the 23-year old to Goal.

When talking about the season Haroon seems to be quite satisfied with his second season in I-League.

“The season has been good for me and the team. It has certainly been better than my first season, where the team was fighting for relegation. We managed to recover from early setbacks this season and improved our performances as the season has gone," opined the defender.

“The first season involved me adjusting to the game. There were some problems and also the team was not playing well, which did not help.  It is always difficult to adjust to a new league, and I was happy that this season my performances improved when you compare them to last season,” added Amiri.

When asked about his best performance this season, Haroon replied, “My best game I believe was against Sporting Clube De Goa, when I scored the winning goal. That was a really proud moment for me.” The 3-2 win over the Goa club in November 2012 was their first win of the season.

When questioned about his future, Haroon replied, “Next season I might not be a Mumbai FC player. I could sign for another I-League club or even leave India to sign for a foreign club. Let’s see what happens. I am still with contract till end of May, and will think about my future after that.”

Haroon also said he ‘hoped’ he would win the award when asked of his chances of winning the award.
