'I'm a guy who wants to win even a practice match' - Churchill Brothers' Beto

The 33-year old Brazilian was instrumental in the Red Machines winning the I-League title this year. Goal caught up with the midfielder after Churchill created history....
Churchill Brothers have ensured that the I-League title remains in Goa after they managed a draw against East Bengal at the Tilak Maidan in Goa. The Red Machines needed only a point to win the league and the efficient that they are, the Goans achieved that.

The victory has been a combination of teamwork, resourcefullness and determination on the part of the Goans. Brazilian midfielder Beto who forms the core of the Churchill side was no doubt a happy man. The talisman who only recently shook off an injury was honoured to play this game.

"I have no words to say. I was not 100%. I came back from an injury which kept me out for one month. As much as I could I helped the team and then I got tired. Then the coach replaced me and the team reacted very well. We have worked hard for the last 10 months, looking forward to this day," said Beto to Goal.

Title wins usually throw up questions about a player's future at the club. Beto was no different.

"I just want to celebrate. I have a few days to decide. Whatever happens, I want to be a champion. I am a guy who wants to win even in a practice match. Eight years in India, four national leagues. I want more, I won’t stop here. So after two-to-three days of celebration, I’ll think about what I am going to do," speculated the Brazilian.

"The talks are going on, but we had stopped them because of today’s match. We were waiting to become national league champions," he added.

The midfielder was looking forward to competing in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup next season. The Goans had a disappointing campaign this year where they crashed out of the tournament in the group stages itself.

"Yeah another opportunity to play in the AFC Cup again. It’s one of my dreams to become an AFC Cup champion with an Indian club. So let’s see," signed off Beto.
