Churchill Brothers won their second I-League title in four years and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) congratulated the Red Machines for their efforts.
“I was planning to be there today (Goa) but unfortunately because of a very urgent meeting relating to the U-17 World Cup, I couldn’t make it. My heartiest congratulations and Churchill Brothers. I think they have done great,” Kushal Das, the AIFF general secretary, told Goal.
Das pointed towards the fact that the Goan side haven’t spent exorbitantly in the transfer market as opposed to the market trend amongst the top clubs in the country.
“They have actually not spent that much money on players which is a great thing. The most important factor is that both the top 2 teams, namely Churchill Brothers and Pune FC, have actually planned their budget well. They picked the right players and it again goes to prove that there is no need to spend extravagant amount on players.
"If you plan and train properly, I think you can achieve success. It’s not about just buying players; it’s more than just buying players,” he explained.
