The Red Machine are on course to win the I-League title this season, but they will have to overcome the challenge of Mohun Bagan to do so....
They have been the team to beat this year and are on course to win the I-League championship. Churchill Brothers have been one of the league’s most free-scoring sides combined with a resolute defence, a combination many of the teams would kill for. With the team packed with international experience and flair, the Goans can ensure that the I-League crown stays in Goa.
“We are one big extended family,” said Brazilian midfielder Beto. “The Mohun Bagan match is crucial and we would like to win it so that we can achieve our goal of winning the I-League, a goal that we have been working on for the past 10 months,” voiced the midfield maestro.
Defender Dharmaraj Ravanan hailed the mixture of youth and experience the squad possessed. “Every match is tough and Bagan will try to avenge the defeat and come all out against us. They don’t have any pressure on them and will play freely. It’s very important that we win, and we certainly will give our best,” opined the defender.
“We have been through so many difficulties in this season, but the team has always remained united. It’s a very crucial match for us. We will play our normal game and go for victory,” said Churchill’s veteran goalkeeper Sandip Nandy.
“We are a ‘team’ in every sense of the word where everyone has worked unselfishly in the larger interest of the club. We wouldn’t be taking Bagan lightly. Nothing has been won as yet and we would play to win all three points on Tuesday,” remarked stopper Denzil Franco.
Churchill had beaten Mohun Bagan on April 21, 2013 at Kolkata by 2-0 and the Mariners would look to avenge that defeat and thus delay the Red Machine's title celebrations.
