thumbnail Hello,

The former India gaffer is rumoured to be on his way out of the club and spoke about the opportunities that lay waiting beyond the walls of Dempo....

For almost a better part of the decade the name Armando Colaco and Dempo SC have been synonymous with each other. The 59-year old Goan led the Golden Eagles to three I-League titles and also to the semi-finals of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup in 2008. But now the reigning I-League champions have lost the form that made them one of the most consistent sides in the I-League.

Changes are rumoured to be made over the summer which may see the coach and players depart from Dempo. However Colaco is unperturbed by these developments.

“I have spent 17 years at the club. I have not imagined life beyond Dempo, but if the club decides to bring someone else, I will continue coaching elsewhere,” said the former India coach to The Times of India.

It is alleged that Pailan Arrows coach Arthur Papas has been identified to take over from Armando. While that decision is yet to be confirmed, the former India coach is unwilling to jump to conclusions till he receives an official word from the management that his time at the club is over.

With the I-League set to receive new clubs into its fold from the 2013-14 season, opportunities are galore for Colaco. Clubs would no doubt queue up to have a coach of his pedigree and record at the helm.

“I have that enthusiasm for coaching. Maybe I will go to a school or land up at an academy. Better still, and this is from the feelers I am getting, I could take over one of the new franchisees that will be granted (direct) entry in the I-League. There is still time for a fresh challenge,” said Armando.

The coach confirmed that he is under contract with Dempo till May 31st, 2013.
